The Playboy of the Western World – The Musical always gets the audience dancing in the aisles, or in this case, in a tent!

This musical version of JM Synge’s The Playboy of the Western World is set in a radio studio in 1959 and includes a full cast, a live band and two foley artists creating hilarious live sound effects. Written by Diarmuid De Faoite and Justin McCarthy, with music by Justin McCarthy, the musical is a live version of their award winning radio play broadcast by RTE.

The show is being performed under a tent. 'It's like going back to the 1950's'  according to Justin McCarthy one of the show’s producers 'It's probably the first time in years that live theatre has  been performed under a stretch a tent!...it's really authentic, like one of the original theatrical fit ups!’

The show has been staged previously in the Town Hall Theatre & Galway Summer Garden to critical acclaim:

“This is a production that offers pure escapism, quality and fun….it's a tonic”
Judy Murphy - About Town, Galway City Tribune

“Justin McCarthy takes the familiar Synge speeches and re-mints them as toe-tapping sing-along compelling brilliant songs.”
Charlie Mac Bride Galway Advertiser

The audience reactions were equally positive:
***This is an absolutely stunning production. Great, great music, lashings of mischief and a cast so talented they make it look easy ***

***What a toe-tapping tonic! Great production, wonderful cast, fab music & true to Synge***

***A highly enthusiastic audience needed little incitement to applaud and got to their feet to join in with a rousing finale***
